Enable the Icon Map workload

Icon Map for Fabric is a Fabric workload. Before anyone can create an Icon Map, a Fabric administrator enables it for your tenant.

Enable it in the Admin portal

  1. Sign in as a Fabric Administrator.
  2. Open the Fabric Admin portal and go to Workloads (the Workload Hub / workload management area).
  3. Find Icon Map and enable it for your tenant. During the private preview your onboarding contact will point you to the workload and confirm the exact name.
  4. If your tenant restricts workloads to specific capacities or security groups, make sure Icon Map is enabled for the capacities and users who need it.

Once enabled, users will see the new item types when they choose New item in a workspace:

  • Icon Map — the map authoring and viewing item.
  • Icon Map Organizational Catalog — curate internal geospatial layers.
  • Tileset Builder — generate vector tilesets from OneLake files.
  • Floor Plan Importer — convert CAD floor plans to indoor maps.

Capacity

Icon Map items run on a Fabric capacity, and reading data from OneLake requires a capacity-backed workspace. Make sure the workspaces where people will build maps are assigned to a Fabric capacity (a trial capacity is fine for evaluation).
