How Icon Map Lite is licensed
Icon Map Lite is licensed per user, through Microsoft AppSource. Licenses are bought and assigned in the Microsoft 365 admin center alongside your other Microsoft subscriptions, and Power BI tells the visual whether the person viewing the report has one.
There is no license key to enter, nothing to configure in the report, and no separate account to create.

Who needs a license?
Anyone who views a report containing Icon Map Lite needs a license assigned to them. That includes report authors.
A license is per person, not per report - one license covers every report that person opens.
Licenses are assigned to users and groups in the Microsoft 365 admin portal, on the Billing Licenses page.
What happens without a license
If Power BI reports that the viewer has no license, Icon Map Lite shows a landing page over the map explaining what it is and where to get one. Nothing underneath is rendered.
If you have just bought a license and the landing page is still showing, close and reopen the report - it takes Power BI a short time to pass a new license through - and check with whoever manages your licenses that one has actually been assigned to you.
Supported environments
Only Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Web Service are supported. For other environments please consider Icon Map Pro and Icon Map Slicer.

A per-user AppSource license has to be assigned to a named user and reported to the visual by the host, which those environments cannot do. Icon Map Pro and Icon Map Slicer are licensed differently and work in all of them.
