How to read the map. The shaded wash is the partial eclipse — the darker it is, the more of the Sun is hidden, and the thin rings mark every 20%. The small outlined patch is the Moon's dark shadow at the exact moment shown; only inside it is the eclipse total, or a ring of light for an annular eclipse. The blue track is the ground that shadow sweeps across, labelled with the time it arrives. Switch to the 3D globe when a path runs over the pole, where a flat map stretches it out of all recognition.
Accuracy. Positions come from Meeus's abridged solar and lunar theories, computed in your browser — nothing you click is sent anywhere. Greatest-eclipse times land within about a minute of the published canon and the shadow centre within roughly 20 km, which is right for planning where to stand but not for timing your camera to the second. Check a published almanac before you book a flight. Every solar eclipse from 2000 to 2099 is listed. The flat map is Web Mercator, so anything above 85° north or south falls off the top and bottom — use the globe for those.
